Stacking drawing and painting and sculpture, gestures of verisimilitudes, Florent Bonzon elicits adornments of life. Spirited from nature, screens, from within each and every one of us; his visual vocabulary repeats and collides. The mark making is direct, connecting his body to ours. His danse macabres are swallowed within their own ecstasy, stars and explosions and skeletons and fire. Immediate and resplendent, his work reacts against restrictive models that might reduce art to thought, finding a moment of trust within immediate gesture. Inner forms, free to reference culture from across human creation. Ones we collectively share, old mythologies and new mythologies. The same mythologies anyway. While his paintings rage, his sculptures dream, looking to the heavens for renewal with eyes open and shut.
